We’ve just wrapped up stage two of a major outdoor space transformation in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire — and the difference between the before and after photos really does speak for itself.
The original space was tired and underused: a patchwork of weathered, mismatched flagstones, weeds breaking through the joints, a worn lawn and an overall layout that wasn’t doing the property any favours. The brief was to turn it into a usable, attractive garden with proper structure, distinct zones for sitting and planting, and a finish that would last.
Stage two of the project included:
- Full excavation and removal of the old paving, sub-base and tired turf using a mini digger
- New Indian sandstone patio laid across the main outdoor area, providing a generous, level surface for seating and movement
- Bespoke raised planters built from heavy oak railway sleepers, running the length of one boundary to add height, structure and planting space
- A timber pergola with integrated trellis as a focal point, framing a water feature and creating a clear destination at the end of the garden
- New fencing and posts to redefine the boundaries
- Decorative bark and gravel beds with fresh planting, plus solid timber benches positioned to make the most of the space
The result is a calm, well-zoned outdoor area that’s both practical and genuinely pleasant to spend time in. The combination of the riven sandstone, the warm tone of the sleepers and the structural pergola gives the space a real sense of permanence — exactly the kind of finish you want from a project of this scale.
Projects like this combine our garden landscaping and hard landscaping expertise — from groundwork and paving through to bespoke timber features, planting and finishing touches.
